The India-England match was always going to be a massive game between two pre-tournament favourites. It remains a marquee contest but the dynamics have changed. A month is a long time in cricket and as the two heavyweights clash on Sunday, the two teams are standing at opposite ends of the spectrum.

England, on the other hand, play a knockout at Edgbaston as their performance in their last two matches have made many fear their ouster. Further, a resurgent Pakistan is looming on the horizon, closing in on the fourth spot. England’s remaining two matches in the group stages are against India and New Zealand. They’ll have to win at least one of the two to ensure that they qualify for the semi-finals.

The India vs England ICC World Cup 2019 fixture at Edgbaston, Birmingham will be the most unique match in the history of the tournament. It not only bears special significance as the outcome of it will more-or-less seal hosts England’s fate in the tournament but it will also be the first of its kind match in a World Cup where children will take over the off-field duties, including pre and post-match commitments, media conferences and in-match productions. The India vs England match has been titled #OneDay4Children.

The ICC in partnership with UNICEF, had announced ‘One Day for Children’ bringing together cricket’s one billion fans to help build a better world for every child.

As the World Cup moves into the last week of group matches, India have all but confirmed a berth in the semi-finals but England find themselves in a bit of a spot. They lost to Pakistan earlier in the tournament and then lost back-to-back games against Sri Lanka and Australia.

This is a precarious situation to be in for England. If they lose to India on June 30 and New Zealand on July 3 and Pakistan beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh, Pakistan will make it to the semis and England will not.
